Jonsson Workwear Open 2023
The DP World Tour continues in South Africa, when Jonsson Workwear Open is played on March 23-26 at The Club at Steyn City course in Johannesburg. This is a new competition on the DP World Tour calendar, which replaces the previous Steyn City Championship.
The Club at Steyn City is one of Africa’s largest and most diverse golf resorts, which offers players a challenge mainly with the card. The course is 7 222 meters long par 72 course, which has a lot of water, bunkers and elevation changes. The course is considered one of South Africa’s best and has received praise from world-class players.
Jack Nicklaus designed course is known for its length, but at the same time it is also very wide and last year it favored especially long hitters. This setting should be leveled out for this year, because before the competition it has been exceptionally dry.
Jonsson Workwear Open is part of DP World Tour’s and Sunshine Tour’s cooperation, which strengthens global partnership and increases prize money and visibility for South African golf. The total pot of the competition is 1.5 million euros and the winner gets 250 000 euros as well as valuable points for Race to Dubai ranking. This creates a great opportunity for surprises like last week.
The preconditions are even on the market based on odds and like last week the winner can be found with over 100 odds. The participant list is wide and includes many players with “incomplete” cards as well as Sunshine Tour’s regular names who do not otherwise play DPWT’s tour.
Betting card and thoughts
Not a setup that can be approached with strategic models although there's a good change of profiting from +2% short. The problem is low liquidity so we'll go with mixed bag of winner, top10, top20 and to miss cut selections.
These are based on our newly updated model of combining 3 month true stokes gained data, last 20 round index (from Datagolf) and position history from last 5 and event.

Good luck for the week!
